A local shelter called our coordinator advising that a litter of purebred weimaraner pups had been brought been captured after running in a vacant field. There were a total of 7 pups brought to the shelter. Over night two of the pups had gotten sick and were taken to the vet. After a diagnosis of Parvo Virus the two puppies were euthanized. The shelter, knowing they would be forced to euthanize the remaining pups, called Heartland asking if we would accept the pups so they would have a chance to live.

On Monday, Heartland volunteers picked up the five puppies (3 males – 2 females) and took them to our vet. The puppies have been on IV’s and received blood transfusions to increase their chances of surviving the virus.

Update - 8/23/10 - We are heartbroken to announce that we have lost 4 of the 5 puppies. Jesse, the last remaining pup, is now off IV's and has not vomited for 48 hours. This is the best news we had had for a week. Dr. Chris and his staff have gone above and beyond trying to save our puppies, and we thank them. Please say a prayer for Jesse, he needs all the help he can get.
