We got up with the sun to head north out of Kansas City to meet with our Nebraska Coordinator Heather Crossley. We had a puppy to pick up and return to Kansas City for placement, and a very special adoption to take care of first.

We drove off the interstate, onto a state highway, off the state highway onto a rural county road, then to a gravel road. Then we saw it, a beautiful home, a hide away, off in the distance. Nestled out in the country of rural America is where our adoption was to take place. We pulled up to the gated entry and pushed the button to signal and identify who we were. The gate opened allowing us entry to the property. As we drove down the driveway I looked at all the acres and acres that were fenced in allowing a weimaraner free run of the property. One look and I knew, Jasper was one lucky weim!

We pulled up to the home and were greeted by the Adopters. Larry the Cable Guy and his lovely wife Cara. Larry a stand up comedian, and actor walked over and shook our hands, and waited as Jasper was unloaded from the car. Larry and Cara had just lost their 5 year old weim to a liver problem and wanted another weim to complete their family of 4 dogs again. Totally aware of all the dogs in rescue programs, they contacted Heartland for a rescue weim. We had discussed several dogs, and discussed a puppy over and older dog. Larry and Cara felt that pups have an easier time getting adopted and chose to go with an adult weim. Cara, pregnant with their first child wanted the new weim to feel at home and comfortable prior to their new baby's birth.

We slowly introduced the couple’s other three dogs to Jasper and quickly all four were running and playing together like he had lived there all his life. It is obvious that Larry loves his dogs and snuggles with them openly in front of us.

Friedman, who Heather had brought to make the trip back to Kansas City for his new home, had fun watching Jasper play with his new buddys. Not wanting Freidman to feel left out, Larry shared huggin’ time with him too.

Wanting to give the family bonding time we said our goodbyes, and left feeling confident that there was no better home out there for Jasper.
