Maximus - Mascot of Heartland Weimaraner Rescue - Entered our Rescue 2002 - Crossed the Rainbow Bridge 2012

On August 21, 2002, Maximus came into the arms of Heartland. Close to death, he was carried from the shelter to a waiting car. Maximus spent the next 6 months of his life recovering from severe demodectic mange, emaciated, septic, severely dehydrated, and full of every worm possible.

Maximus found the love of not only the Weimaraner World, but animals lovers around the world. He was spoiled by all who came into contact with him. As a puppy, at the tender age of 7 months old, he had no idea the affect he had on us all.

After all the months of healing, and love, the foster family couldn’t let Maximus go. He would become Heartland’s mascot, to spread the word of how the love of the world can bring healing.

For many years Maximus watched over hundreds of puppies in foster with Heartland. His story would be told over and over. His treatment for demodex would be adopted by not only other Weim Rescue groups, but other breed rescue groups across the nation. Many remember and still hold a special place in their heart for Maximus. Even his neutering became an event in the Weim World. Maximus himself posted that all he wanted for Christmas was his Jingle Bells back! Mary Kay from Weim Rescue Texas started a campaign and sold Jingle Bells on e-bay to pay for the neuter! Brian Lamb from Arizona nicknamed Maximus Da Moose - saying there was a Moose on the Loose. In his later years after gaining weight, we loving called him Shamoose.

In 2010 Maximus had surgery to remove what was thought to be a mass cell tumor - prayers were answered when it turned out to be a fatty tumor.

In 2011 Maximus, along with Gail & Brian's other 3 Weims, Maximus proved to be just what Gail needed after an illness struck her and she was bedridden for two months. Maximus stayed at her side, and helped her keep her spirits high.

April 14, 2012, Maximus fought his last battle, and crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Heartland Weim Rescue, Gail, and Brian want to thank everyone for all the prayers, messages, e-mails, and phone calls. We know this wasn't just a loss for us, but to many of our fellow rescuers, and long time friends as well.

God Speed Maximus - you will always be a part of Heartland Weimaraner Rescue.
